Youth by Daughter – off the album, “If You Leave” – starts out calmly enough with just vocalist Elena Tonra’s singing and a soothing guitar sound. But once the powerful drums section enters about a minute into the song, they give the song a real strength, helped by the lyrics about the pains of broken relationships. With words like “setting fire to our insides for fun” the song creates a real vision of what is going through our subject’s mind during this dark period in their life.
